From Recognition to Resourcing

2025 as a Turning Point

Last year, we called on the world to accelerate action in our territories. This year, we declare that there is no time left for hesitation. The world stands at a crossroads—and so do we.

Amid growing political uncertainty, especially in donor countries like the United States, we face new threats to the financial stability of our movements. But these shifts will not derail our purpose. They only strengthen our resolve.

The Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC) is actively responding—diversifying funding strategies, deepening alliances, and preparing our communities to lead. In this critical moment, we reaffirm that climate justice will not be achieved without Indigenous and local leadership.

2025 must be the year where promises become reality. Where territorial rights are protected. Where funding flows directly to our communities.

As we prepare for COP30 in Belém, Brazil, we call on IP&LC organizations, civil society, governments, and aligned institutions to walk with us—not behind us. Our indigenous science ancestral knowledge systems and territorial governance have long offered real solutions to the climate crisis. It’s time these solutions are not only acknowledged, but centered, funded, and scaled.

Despite violence, exclusion, and threats to our lands, we continue to protect forests, resist extractive industries, and defend our rights. We stand firm in the face of deforestation, cultural erosion, and the collapse of ecosystems—not just for ourselves, but for future generations and the planet.

Created through deep dialogue in Espírito Santo, Brazil, this plan represents more than a roadmap — it is a declaration of collective strength and vision. It reflects the wisdom of our peoples, the urgency of our times, and the clarity of our purpose.

Let 2025 be the year the world finally follows the leadership of those who have always protected it, because the answer isn’t just us. The answer is all of us, including you.
